What time is the last train?
This page contains the Japanese phrase: What time is the last train?
Last trains in Tokyo are unfortunately quite early and there are no late night buses. The buses that do run late charge double the normal price. Taxi prices are more expensive after 12:00 a.m. The last train is guaranteed to be crammed packed so I would avoid it if you can. Staying out all night and catching the first train seems to be a popular alternative if you don’t have to work the next day. Favorite hangout places while waiting for the first trains are subway entrances, 24 hour McDonald’s and family restaurants.
Tip: Walking a fair distance and then catching a taxi and getting off a few clicks before your house is a cheap way to get home if you’ve missed the last train. Also, you might be able to team up with fellow night-owls and share a taxi part of the way. I’ve done this on numerous occasions and saved a bundle. Here’s a website where you can type in the name of your train stations to see what time the last train is (unfortunately I haven’t been able to find and English one yet): http://transit.ekitan.com/syuden/. Other useful train phrases are: does this train stop at Shinjuku?, is this the right platform for Ginza?, subway route map please?, where do I change trains?, where is the subway station?, and which station do I get off at?
