Cigarettes are super cheap in Japan. 320 yen a pack. That’s about $3.50 CND. With cigarettes being cheap a lot of people smoke them. Therefore, if you’re a non smoker you’re going to hate this aspect of Japan. It’s a tough nut to crack when you first get here. Why? Why does every restaurant have smoking rooms that don’t actually divide the smoke from the non smoking sections? This is something I have been struggling with the whole time I’ve been here. You do, however, get used to the smoke and put up with it because you have no other choice.
On an interesting note, a good friend of mine said, “I find that my tolerance of a smoker depends on whether or not I like them.” I complimented his statement by saying “I didn’t like you to begin with and now that I know you smoke I like you even less.” We laughed and chuckled… |
