Giving in the third person using ageru
| This page contains giving in the third person using ageru in Japanese. |
| Getting giving and receiving is a tough nut to crack as there are many uses for these terms. Ageru is used when using the third person to describe something being given from someone outside your known group to some who is in your group. Japan is a group culture so these different terms for give and receive describe who was giving the receiving in relation to the group. There are five types of giving terms: ageru, (giving inbound), sashiageru (giving to a superior), yaru (giving to an inferior), kudasaru (used to express the same event from a superior) and kureru (giving inbound). There are two ways to receive: itadaku (receiving from a superior) and morau (receiving from an equal). These are general uses, however, there are many more uses from these terms that will be dealt with in later videos. |
